Eighteen

Noah inhaled as he shifted his leg on the bed. His eyes slowly blinked open to find Jesse staring at him.

“Mmmm, hey. Everything okay?”

“Yeah, you just, you just were talking in your sleep.”

Noah frowned, “I was? What did I say?”

“You kept saying no, he’s mine, over and over again.”

“Oh.”

“Am I? Yours, I mean?”

Noah turned onto his side as he ran his hand over his face to try to wake up farther. “Well, that’s up to you, Jesse. I don’t want you to feel like a possession that I get to own because you’re not. You’re a beautiful, wonderful man with his own thoughts and feelings and I would never claim to actually own you. I know what that’s like, to feel like somebody’s property, and I didn’t like it. I had no freedom – no freedom to make my own choices, no freedom to speak my mind, no freedom to be…me. It’s not right to make someone feel like that. But I would like to be yours in the sense that I want us to be together – to nurture and grow together, to respect, adore and eventually love each other. That’s what I mean when I say I want you to be mine.”

Jesse rolled towards Noah and put his hand on his chest as he said, “I am yours, Noah. I have been since I first looked into your eyes in that bathroom at Brubakers. I knew then, just like I know now, that you were a man I could trust, that you would take care of me without hurting me, that you would love me without consuming me.”

“Jess, I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing,” Noah whispered.

“Neither do I, Noah. Our first introduction to relationships for both of us was something fucked up and just wrong. We’re going to have to learn how to do it right together. Are you up for that?”

Noah’s thumb slid over Jesse’s cheek as he cupped it, “Yeah, I am.”

“Good.”

There was a knock on their door that interrupted what was happening between the two of them.

“Come in,” Noah said as he turned his head to look.

Morgan stuck his head in.

“I’ve got news.”

“Okay. We’ll throw some clothes on and be out in a minute.”

Morgan closed the door and Noah looked over at Jesse, “You ready for this?”

“Yeah,” Jesse said and even though Noah saw his pulse thrumming like crazy in his neck from his nerves – the strength and determination he saw in the man’s eyes simply floored him.

“You’ll be okay, Jesse, we’ll be okay after all of this,” he whispered as he cupped his cheek.

Jesse leaned forward, pressing his forehead to Noah’s, “I know, Noah, I know.”

One brief kiss later and then the two of them were climbing from the bed and slipping their clothes on.

“What’s going on?” Noah said as he and Jesse stepped into the main room where everyone was gathered near the kitchen.

“Have you heard of Niles Constantino?”

Noah frowned, “He’s like a big shipping company owner with rumored ties to the mafia or something, right?”

Morgan glanced at Luther and then back at Noah, “Right.
